The 'cowboy Bebeop Anime Guide 1' -the first out of six volumes- starts off with a few character bios, then gives summaries and information on the first six episodes of the series. The last few chapters deal with the setting of Cowboy Bebop universe, with a chapter explaining about bounty hunters along with files on the items used by the characters and lots of sketches on everything from the types of spacesuits used to the character of Vicious.The information is interesting, but most of it can be found if you have the DVDs. This book would make a good gift for Cowboy Bebop fans who have everything else or for people who need the information at their fingertips, like fan fiction writers. Lots of color pictures right from the anime help fill out the work but it still feels kind of weak.

I ordered this book new and I consider myself a pretty big fan of Cowboy Bebop. I love the art and text in this book, however, the book had slight damage. A couple bends and tears.

Having wanted the Japanese version of Newtype's 100% Cowboy Bebop for some time now, I was pleasantly surprised to see a smaller guide in English at my local bookstore. It didn't jump out at me, that's for sure. Measuring in at about a slim 7 x 5.5 inches, the book fits basically anywhere you want it to, including coffee tables or small bookshelves and the likes. But don't let the size fool you, it's packed with basically anything anyone would want to know about the first five episodes of the series, from basic information about the characters to tidbits about seemingly minor incidents and the lyrics of the songs in English and Romanji (phonetic Japanese). There's a small section after the overview of the episodes that goes over the lives of Spike, Jet, and the rest of the gang. Ein and Spike are personally my favorite characters in the whole series, and even Ein gets his own character bio. The print quality is average to above average and the guide is littered with pictures and captions for Sessions 1-5 of the anime. The 14 pages of character designs in black and white in the back of the book are a nice complement to the colorful layouts on the rest of the pages. They seriously show nearly every, if not every, character shown in Cowboy Bebop episodes 1-5. I have a few Gundam data books in Japanese, so it's nice to finally have an anime guide in English that I can read as well as look at the pictures. While the quality might not hold up to other Newtype publications such as the big honkin' Newtype 100% Neon Genesis Evagelion guide (in Japanese), I found the Cowboy Bebop Anime Guide 1 to be something no serious fan should be without. This should definately pique the interest of anyone who still hasn't seen the series as well as fit nicely into any fan's anime or manga library.

I'm a huge Cowboy Bebop fan, I own the series on DVD and preordered the movie a long time ago. I bought this book thinking that it would be full of cool facts and info that you wouldn't pick up from the actual DVD, but it's really just a synopsis of each episodes with a bunch of pictures from each episode. There are a few pages of extras, but they are mostly some rough sketches and short bios, nothing really worth the price of this book.If this was half the price, it might be worth it, but even then I would only suggest this for the absolute collector that must have every Cowboy Bebop related piece of merchandise out there, regardless of quality. For the casual fan, or even the more fanatic, it's simply not worth the money.

When I saw this book at the local [store], I was really excited because I love this show and already own all the dvd's. After shelling out [money] for it, however, I realized that it really wasn't worth it. The bulk of the book is made up of summaries and screenshots from the first 5 episodes. This might have been cool, but it was better actually watching the episodes, which I had already done atleast five times. So even though the pictures are cool and there is some information on the characters I didn't know, this book is for hardcore fans/geeks only... those who need to know all the personal information about each and every minor character. Final verdict: Only buy this if you are completely obsessed with the series and have already purchased all the dvd's. Maybe if you find the book used on amazon ... it would be a good deal, but otherwise you're just going to be disappointed.

This is an excellent book for fans of the Cowboy Bebop series. Whether you are new to it or not, you will be sure to appreciate the handiness of this guide.A slim book, chock full of info about characters, tidbits about the show, and colorful images.There is even a section called Art Files in the back, which have even more information on sessions and characters.This book is in english, so it opens the familiar way, and you don't have to worry about knowing japanese :-)=I highly recommend this guide to anyone wishing to learn more about Cowboy Bebop, as well as us die-hard fans.

As a scientist, Targ demands proof. His experience is based on two decades of investigations at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), which he cofounded with physicist Harold Puthoff in 1972. This twenty-million dollar program launched during the Cold War was supported by the CIA, NASA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and Army and Air Force Intelligence. The experiments they conducted routinely presented results could have happened by chance less than once in a million. Targ describes four types of experiments:

Remote Viewing, in which a person describes places and events independent of space and time. For example, while in California Price drew to scale a Soviet weapons factory at Semipalitinsk with great accuracy later confirmed by Satellite photography. In another remote viewing, Targ accurately sketched an airport in San Andreas, Columbia himself.

Distant Mental Influence, where the thoughts of the experimenter can positively or negatively affect the physiology (heart rate, skin resistance, etc.) of a distant person.

About the Author
Russell Targ is a physicist and author, and was a pioneer in the development of the laser and laser applications. He holds his B.S. in Physics from Queens College, and did graduate work in physics at Columbia University. Targ has received two National Aeronautics and Space Administration awards for inventions and contributions in lasers and laser communications, and has published over one hundred scientific papers on lasers, plasma physics and ESP research. In the 1970s and 1980s, Targ co-founded and worked for the CIA-sponsored Stanford Research Institute's investigation into psychic abilities. His work in this new area, called remote viewing, was published in Nature, The Proceedings of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and in Proceedings of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 1983 and 1984, he accepted invitations to present remote viewing demonstrations and address the USSR Academy of Sciences on this research. In 1997, Targ retired from Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space Co. as a senior staff scientist, where he developed airborne laser systems for the detection of windshear. Targ now teaches remote viewing workshops worldwide and continues to write. He is co-author of eight books dealing with the scientific investigation of psychic abilities, including Limitless Mind: A Guide to Remote Viewing, Transformation of Consciousness, and his autobiography Do You See What I See?: Memoirs of a Blind Biker. Russell Targ is also an editor, publisher, songwriter, producer and teacher. He lives in Palo Alto, California with his wife Patricia.

This is as much a guide to solving problems as it is to the study of trigonometry. Tanton opens each chapter with an explicit statement of the Common Core topics that are being addressed in that chapter. They are a reminder that in mathematics, a common core of learned topics has been a part of our agenda for a long time. Using text and diagrams, the topics of the chapter are explained.

This is followed by a featured problem for the chapter, where the author recapitulates the process that he followed solving it. These problems are not bunnies, they require some thought and insight when solving them. The last part of the chapter is a set of problems that have appeared in mathematical contests and solutions to all of them appear in the second section. They are multiple choice problems.

The real unique feature of this book is the set of ten problem solving strategies that Tanton employs when he solved the featured problems. They are:

Engage in successful flailing-this means simply writing down whatever it is you know about the problem.

Do something-just the act of writing down something related but not necessarily relevant can trigger a valuable thought.

Engage in wishful thinking-in this strategy if you need something, write it down. For example, if you need a +4 on one side of an equation put it on both sides and see what you have.

Draw a picture-always a sound strategy in mathematics, when possible.

Solve a smaller version of the same problem-or equivalently, solve a part of it if the problem can be segmented.

Eliminate incorrect choices-a standard tactic on a multiple choice question.

Perseverance is key- in other words, keep trying to examine the problem, look at it different ways.

Second-guess the author-look for clues in the statement, for example the mention that 131 is prime. Irrelevant or a clue?

Avoid hard work-specifically working out the precise value of large numbers. Is there a pattern at work?

Go to extremes-for example in a puzzle that deals with the ages of people, what if they were all the same age? What if the escalator was not moving?

Tanton references these strategies in his descriptions of solving the featured problems and manages to inject a bit of humor into the work.
